For nearly ninety years, accomplished and interesting women have gathered
at The Cosmopolitan Club of Philadelphia to enjoy its wealth of
resources -- programs presented by scores of stimulating speakers,
impressive art exhibitions, delicious food and drink, parties of all kinds,
performances by noted musicians, book clubs, mah jongg, bridge,
captivating excursions, and much more.
The Club derives its forward-thinking spirit from the model of its founders,
who hired prominent architect Edmund Gilchrist and French-born interior
designer Jules Bouy to create a clubhouse on a charming street not far from
Rittenhouse Square that reached beyond the conventional styles of the day.
Today that clubhouse, which opened in 1930, is recognized as having one of
the most important Art Deco/Moderne interiors in Philadelphia.
